Checking the HTTP Response Status Code

Simple HTTP GET request to download the HTML of a web page. Check the HTTP response status code (i.e. 200, 404, etc) to see if it downloaded successfully.

Download Chilkat HTTP ActiveX

Dim fso, outFile
Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set outFile = fso.CreateTextFile("output.txt", True)

set http = CreateObject("Chilkat.Http")

' Any string unlocks the component for the 1st 30-days.
success = http.UnlockComponent("Anything for 30-day trial")
If (success <> 1) Then
    MsgBox http.LastErrorText
    WScript.Quit
End If

' Send the HTTP GET and return the content in a string.

html = http.QuickGetStr("http://www.google.com/")

status = http.LastStatus

If (status = 200) Then
    outFile.WriteLine("status = 200, OK!")
Else
    outFile.WriteLine("HTTP Response status = " _
         & status)

    ' Display the complete response header.
    outFile.WriteLine(http.LastResponseHeader)
End If

' Now try a URL where we know we'll get a 404 response:
html = http.QuickGetStr("http://www.chilkatsoft.com/NothingHere.html")

status = http.LastStatus

If (status = 200) Then
    outFile.WriteLine("status = 200, OK!")
Else
    outFile.WriteLine("HTTP Response status = " _
         & status)

    ' Display the complete response header.
    outFile.WriteLine(http.LastResponseHeader)
End If

outFile.Close
