The IsConnected property indicates whether or not the FTP component has a valid TCP/IP connection (and is logged on) to the FTP server.

Download Chilkat FTP2 ActiveX

Dim ftp As New ChilkatFtp2

Dim success As Long

' Any string unlocks the component for the 1st 30-days.
success = ftp.UnlockComponent("Anything for 30-day trial")
If (success <> 1) Then
    MsgBox ftp.LastErrorText
    Exit Sub
End If

ftp.Hostname = "ftp.chilkatsoft.com"
ftp.Username = "mylogin"
ftp.Password = "mypassword"

' Connect and login to the FTP server.
success = ftp.Connect()
If (success <> 1) Then
    MsgBox ftp.LastErrorText
    Exit Sub
End If

'  ...

' At any point in an FTP session, the IsConnected property
' can be checked to determine if the component has remained
' connected to the FTP server.
If (ftp.IsConnected = 1) Then
    MsgBox "Connected!"
Else
    MsgBox "Not connected!"
End If

'  ...

ftp.Disconnect
