 Chilkat Perl Module Downloads for Windows, Linux, and MAC OS X

use chilkat();

$bz2 = new chilkat::CkBz2();

# Any string unlocks the component for the 1st 30-days.
$success = $bz2->UnlockComponent("Anything for 30-day trial.");
if ($success != 1) {
    print $bz2->lastErrorText() . "\n";
    exit;
}

# Any type of file may be compressed.
# The .bz2 file format is not an archive. Only a single
# file may be compressed. It is for this reason that you'll
# often see TAR files compressed with BZip2 (i.e. a file
#  ending in .tar.bz2.

# This example will compress an XML file.
# The 1st arg is the file to compress, the 2nd arg is
#  the output (.bz2) filename.
$success = $bz2->CompressFile("hamlet.xml","hamlet.xml.bz2");
if ($success != 1) {
    print $bz2->lastErrorText() . "\n";
    exit;
}

# There is no limitation on the size of files that may be compressed.
print "Success!" . "\n";
