Sort Email by Date

Download Chilkat .NET for 2.0 / 3.5 Framework

Download Chilkat .NET for 1.0 / 1.1 Framework

Read a POP3 mailbox and sort by Date. The POP3 protocol does not provide the ability to download emails within a date range. However, once emails are downloaded, they may be sorted by date using the Chilkat email bundle object.

// The mailman object is used for receiving (POP3)
//  and sending (SMTP) email.
Chilkat.MailMan mailman = new Chilkat.MailMan();

// Any string argument automatically begins the 30-day trial.
bool success;
success = mailman.UnlockComponent("30-day trial");
if (success != true) {
    MessageBox.Show("Component unlock failed");
    return;
}

//  Set the POP3 server's hostname
mailman.MailHost = "mail.chilkatsoft.com";

//  Set the POP3 login/password.
mailman.PopUsername = "matt@chilkatsoft.com";
mailman.PopPassword = "****";

Chilkat.EmailBundle bundle = null;

// Copy the all email from the user's POP3 mailbox
// into a bundle object. The email remains on the server.
// You may copy full emails, or headers-only. Call CopyMail
// to copy full emails. Call GetAllHeaders to copy email headers.
//  bundle = mailman.CopyMail();
int numBodyLines;
numBodyLines = 1;
bundle = mailman.GetAllHeaders(numBodyLines);

if (bundle == null ) {
    MessageBox.Show(mailman.LastErrorText);
    return;
}

// Sort the email in the bundle by date.
bool ascending;
ascending = true;
bundle.SortByDate(ascending);

int i;
Chilkat.Email email = null;
for (i = 0; i <= bundle.MessageCount - 1; i++) {
    email = bundle.GetEmail(i);
    textBox1.Text += email.LocalDate + "\r\n";
    textBox1.Refresh();

}
