Send Japanese HTML Email

C# source code showing how to send a Japanese HTML email with both plain-text and HTML alternatives.

bool success = false;

// Create a mailman object for sending email.
Chilkat.MailMan mailman = new Chilkat.MailMan();

// Any string argument automatically begins the 30-day trial.
mailman.UnlockComponent("30-day trial");

// Set the SMTP server.
mailman.SmtpHost = "smtp.earthlink.net";

// Create an email object
Chilkat.Email email = new Chilkat.Email();

// Set the basic email stuff: body, subject, "from", "to"
// (This source code file was saved as Unicode (code page 1200).)
// Set the plain-text alternative body.
email.Body = "私はガラスを食べられます";
// Now provide an HTML alternative body:
email.AddHtmlAlternativeBody("<html><body><b><font color='blue' size='+1'>私はガラスを食べられます</font></b></body></html>");
email.AddTo("私は","matt@chilkatsoft.com");
email.From = "私は <programmer@chilkatsoft.com>";
email.Subject = "私はガラスを食べられます";

// Chilkat automatically recognizes that this email has Japanese characters,
// and thus encodes everything as it is needed for the default Japanese encoding
// of Shift_JIS.

// Also, because Chilkat recognizes the Japanese characters, it adds the appropriate
// HTML Meta tag to ensure that the recipient's mail client will correctly interpret
// the Japanese HTML.
// Set the charset to "Shift_JIS" redundantly...
//email.Charset = "Shift_JIS";
success = mailman.SendEmail(email);
if (!success)
{
	MessageBox.Show(mailman.LastErrorText);
	return;
}

// The charset can easily be changed to euc-jp
// If the charset changes, Chilkat automaticallly updates the HTML meta tag specifying the charset.
email.Charset = "euc-jp";
success = mailman.SendEmail(email);
if (!success)
{
	MessageBox.Show(mailman.LastErrorText);
	return;
}

// The charset can easily be changed to iso-2022-jp
email.Charset = "iso-2022-jp";
success = mailman.SendEmail(email);
if (!success)
{
	MessageBox.Show(mailman.LastErrorText);
	return;
}

// The charset can easily be changed to utf-8
email.Charset = "utf-8";
success = mailman.SendEmail(email);
if (!success)
{
	MessageBox.Show(mailman.LastErrorText);
	return;
}
